My sister is getting married this weekend so my mom scheduled my other sister, Samantha, and I to fly into San Antonio on Thursday. I get out of classes at 3:20 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Samantha gets out at 12:20. Instead of waiting for me and catching the 5:15 flight, Samantha decided to leave me in the dust and take off at 1:50.
My original plan was to go to my 2:00 class, get out at 3:20, and have my friend drive me to the airport at 4:00, but this all changed when my teacher decided to let us out at 2:45!!! Most people would be excited about this, however, I was felt quite the opposite. Now I had to sit around for an hour and a half twiddling my thumbs until it was time to leave. So brilliant me decided to make life a little harder and rush to the airport to get on an earlier flight.
I dart out of the classroom (which happens to be literally the farthest classroom on campus from my house) and call my friend to tell him to DART over to my house to pick me up so that I could try to make the 4:20 flight. I am running back to my house in the 80-degree weather in black jeans and a 3-quarter sleeve shirt so I am just going to let you visualize what a mess I looked like when I finally arrived home. I ran upstairs, changed clothes (try putting on jeans when your legs are drenched in sweat…not fun!), and rushed out the door into my friend’s car.
I am thinking to myself, “Hey, I can actually do this; I can make this flight!!!” I am running on pure adrenaline at this point when all of the sudden my heart froze when my brilliant friend decides to go down Mockingbird Lane at 3:00 in the afternoon where there are at least 5 school zones between me and the airport!!! After 10 minutes goes by and we haven’t moved but two spotlights up, I look at my friend and really contemplated strangling him…joking, but seriously DIDN’T HE KNOW I HAD A PLANE TO CATCH!! FINALLY we get to the airport at 3:25 and I think I am golden, that is until I walked up to the ticket counter and he told me I would have to be put on standby for the 3:50 and 4:20 flights, where there happened to be 4 people in front of me. Had I just spent the last 45 minutes stressing for nothing? And worst off, am I going to be sitting at this airport for 2 hours until my original flight takes off???
Apparently God was on my side that day because as I walked through security and up to the 3:50 flight gate at 3:46, they were making there last announcement for all standby passengers! I walked straight up and straight onto the plane!!! I couldn’t believe that I had actually done it!!! And now that I have, I will never attempt to get on an earlier flight again lol I nearly had 3 heart attacks in the process but now I am safely at home and ready for the hectic weekend ahead J
